MEET THE BIRD

The Black Bird, The Camping Bird and the Services Bird.

The Black Bird Store in Medford, OR, was founded as an army surplus store in 1965 by Lee Hobbs. The giant black bird in front of the store was fashioned after a 10-foot magpie at Yard Birds, a store in Centralia, WA, owned by a friend of Lee’s. The Black Bird Shopping Center has become one of the largest family-owned outdoors stores in Medford, OR.

I've been shopping at the BlackBird since time immemorial. They are Ace Hardware and so much more. The Ace Hardware represents a small fraction of what they have in stock. You can find a bargain if you look around but overall the prices are fair to slightly on the high side. If you need canning supplies they have the best selection around. If you need a screen for your window or door repaired they are the ONLY place I would go. They offer a wide selection of products and a wide variety of employee attitudes too. They are the only Ace Hardware I've been to that the popcorn isn't free. I guess id say that I grew up at the BlackBird and the BlackBird has grown on me.

I like blackbird, it's not the cheapest place but it has good products. Out in front is a hot dog cart. Just a small two-person ran hot dog cart. They have really good hot dogs and sausages there. Also Blackbird always has popcorn for the kids. It's a good place to go. Blackbird has been in that same spot since I was like 9 years old or younger,I'm now 40. Lol
